Vid to top screen when iPad held Vertically

Odd Question, I know. But is there a way in VLC to hold my iPad vertically and have the video display across top of screen instead of across the middle?
The search engines didn't suceed with any of my search terms.
I'll try to illustrate my question with ascii art below.
