VLC 3.4 for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV

when plugging into Usb C on the ipad using my Nreal air glasses it now alway comes the same on both ends (your video is playing on the tv ) sound goes through i hafe tryed this on 2 difrent ipads and users and that has the same problem
This is not problem with any other player and older versions of vlc where ok

I have problem when updated latest version, before I could choose skip 30s(slide) or 10s(tap) but now VLC team removed that smart function and pushed it on setting. No one has time to go setting to change every moments I just want to skip with my choice by touching.

And when I skip sometimes image is crashed, I wish I didn't update it but I can't back old version.

Please fix it back, thank you VLC team

VLC has for a very long time causing stuttering when viewing interlaced 1080i streams with Yadif x2-interlacing. All other deinterlacing modes causes flickering or have other problems so Yadif x2 is the best one to use. However, how is it possible that it stutters on for examble Apple TV with A15 Bionic chip? That CPU is a beast and should even do this properly without issues only on software without HW acceleration. VLC Team, please look into this.

As I previously mentioned before any 3.4 update. Several months ago in which remains a continuing “happening”. I have multiple files in folders on an SMB. Let’s just say a series of movies. For example 1-5. I have them named in order so all I have to do, presumably is hit play and enjoy the ride. However, back in December I think it was. I noticed it started skipping files. If I started on 1. It would play 1, 3, 5. I have tried this with a variety of video formats. Mkv, avi, mp4. It makes no difference. What is even more strange, is sometimes it skips, sometimes it don’t. My method is as follows. Apple TV Home Screen: select VLC media player > Local Network > (named smb) SMB > (smb server login info is already filled out) Login > File Folder > Video > Play. After the first video is finished it will skip to the third and not even play the second.

I am having some problems with airplay and lightning->hdmi adapters. I'm using VLC 3.4.3 on my iPhone 12 mini running iOS 16.5 (20F66).

Casting to chromecast works.
Casting to my Samsung TV (airplay) just plays audio with a static square image (video plays on the iPhone screen)
Mirroring my entire screen to my Samsung TV (airplay) works.
Lightning->HDMI adapter to my Samsung TV & computer monitor doesn't work properly; the video is 16:9 playing within a 4:3 window, so there are black bars all around the picture.

Hoping you can fix it

Latest version still have a bug to play form Files APP (Open with VLC) now not working, just opens vlc blank page, please fix this

I have a problem with AppleTv. With the new version 3.4 of May 2023, I can't see the folders on my PC. Before I could access my PC folders.

I found new error, lock rotation ON but it still rotate with my phone.

Somewhere around six months I have been reporting the exact same bug with the exact steps as to how to replicate the issue. Yet it seems I am the only one that gets the issue or there is no fix assigned for the future. So sad. Looks as if my days with VLC may very well be over.

@yoshiyike: indeed your problem is not frequently reported by people other than you. This exclusively affects the VLC version for Apple TV, no? can you reproduce the same issue on iOS?

I would suppose by iOS, you are insinuating an Apple operating system. Which I only have my phone. On my phone or “iOS” it seems to work as it should. As far as I can tell. No skipping of files that is. But I have only attempted one trial of it. For I believe if you are going to watch videos/movies. A phone is not the place to be doing it. So from what I can tell, yes, this happens only with TvOS. In which stated previously. It only happens sometimes. I do not know what variables change to make the outcome vary. Yet from time to time they do.

When I simply want to play a video on iPad (iPad OS 16.5) in fullscreen the player (3.4.4.) neither hides the battery icon nor the clock. Really annoying.

Is that an intended behaviour or is there a setting to hide that, so that you can watch a video in fullscreen without that distraction?

Now, a complaint!
Since the latest update (3.4?), I've been unable to log into any remote servers (I mainly use SFTP, but it also doesn't work with SMB or NFS either). This happens regardless of how I enter credentials (ad hoc, saved, whatever) and doesn't work on TVos or iOS with this latest build. The patches (3.4.5) have not seemed to resolve this. I know it's not a network issue, because I can log into these machines using SFTP just fine with other clients. No issues with DNS either. Just seemed to stop working back in May.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello, I’m a new member on this forum. And i’ve got the same bug on Apple Tv 4k. I cannot play any file from PC through local connection (SMB). I can see the file, but after trying to play it, the screen shows “wait please” for like half a second and then it shows the list of files again. I don’t even remember when this problem happened first time, but i think like 6 months ago(

I’ve tested the smb connection on my iPhone and it works well. Seems like it’s just an Apple Tv issue

Only partial retention of network credentials.

A year ago, to mount a server, I had to enter user, password, port, workgroup. The "save" button did not work.

Now, with the latest tvOS and the latest VLC, the "save" button only saves port and workgroup.

As the thread closed about a year ago by Felix Paul Kuhne attests, very many users would like to be able to store login credentials for a local server.

How about really fixing it, by teaching it to save user and password as well?

It is extremely tedious entering a secure password with an AppleTV remote, especially when it's over, and over, and over again. Sure, the skill is within the reach of most people who read or post in these forums, but some of them, such as me, have family members who say in annoyed tone, "I just want to watch a video that we own. Why is it so hard?"

Running 3.4.8 (541) on an AppleTV (tvOS 15.2) I'm having issues looping videos. Whether its a single file or a folder with 2 copies of the video. I can't figure out why vlc will quit to the app screen. I enabled logging and this is what I see at the end of the file. In both of these examples the loop played for 20-30 times before it decided to stop.

Yes, this randomly stopping of looping a video is very much a show-stopper for all those who use VLC to run a looped presentation via AppleTV (and few other solutions exists), so it is very important to find a solution here. Wish there were some paid app or that Apple could (unlikely) have the brains themselves to add such functionality to AppleTV ... a lot of people would buy an AppleTV only for this single functionality.

Please i am begging you guys to push an update for FTP servers. No progress bar when downloading files at all, and videos break if you play them before they are finished downloading (which you have no clue if its even done) Going on deployment here with my shop and made a local wireless ftp server, and this is the only issue.

Hello, I don't have sound with VLC on my AppleTV. No issues with Youtube, Apple TV+, Netflix, Viméo or Prime Vidéo. The videos are on my NAS and the AppleTV is connect to an AirPort Express for the sound. The Airport send the sound to a soundbar. I don't know if it's due to software upgrade (VLC and AppleTV iOs) because previously that worked. And when I use the AppleTV Remote to rise the sound, I see the icon on the screen, like for the other app, but nothing happened. And I have sound on my laptop when I play the video on my computer. VLC tvOs version: 3.4.9 (550) iOS version : 17.0

Is there a known issue with multichannel sound in tvOS 17.1? I am using AirPods Pro as output device and Spatial Audio settings in Control Center are always grayed for VLC, output is shown as STEREO (also grayed out). Expected result: Spatial Audio settings available, output shown as MULTICHANNEL for videos that have multichannel audio stream. Am I missing something? I'm using latest available version 3.4.9.

I'm having a few problems with the new favorites function in VLC 3.5 on the Apple TV.

1) In the bright view, the orange font on the light gray background is barely readable.

2. when I call up a folder on my NAS as a favorite, the videos in it cannot be played. "Please wait" appears briefly, then the file is displayed again. If I call up the same folders in the 'normal' way without favorites, everything works perfectly.

3. when I quit VLC via the task switcher and restart it, all previously created favorites have disappeared.

Maybe you can take another look at this.

I have a Sony TV OLED 4K serie model A8 with an Apple TV 4K. I use Dolby Vision setted on Apple TV but when I paly a MKV with h265 or with greatest quality 10 bit etc... the quality on same TV is really better on VLC for Google Tv than on Apple Tv.
This has been happening for a couple of months, before on Apple TV it was slightly better. Today, however, the images on LVC on Apple TV 4K are poor.
However, watching Netflix, Disney+ or Apple TV+ on Apple TV is significantly better than Google TV.
What happened in these months? Is it the fault of some VLC or TVOS update?
