Opensubtitles.org api end of life.

As of 00:00 am today the api for opensubtitles.org is no longer operational and subtitles are not downloaded. Is there an alternative for this and how can I activate it? Or will there be an update for VLC on iPadOS? Or can I use my own account?

Hello,

You cannot use your own account yet.

VLC is exempted from the API shutdown and download of subtitles through the app is expected to continue to work. I just verified and it works correctly here.

I only get a message from opensubtitles.org to become a vip member to get subtitles. Do I need to reinstall the app?

After reinstalling the app nothing changed. Can you tell me how you verified it? So I can do this too?

Hello, as the OP mentioned, subtitles are not working since Jan 1st. When you choose the only option to download subtitles from “opensubtitles.org” on VLC IOS app, it does give you the option to download the subtitles but once you do, there are no subtitles being displayed on the screen, only this message “Become opensubtitles.org VIP member to get subtitles - > osdb link vip”

I guess VLC is not exempt from the shutdown.
It seems Opensubtitles have switched from the .org site to the new .com site

I tried to uninstall and reinstall VLC and it still does not work.

Please look into this.

I have a written confirmation that VLC is exempted from that API shutdown. I will email them once more.

FYI, the problem was fixed. No update to VLC is necessary.
