I have a folder named Documentary and this folder has too many files for its own good, I have a script that autmatically generates folders and links as such

I had a similar problem recently. Well, not me, a friend of mine. But we've tried to troubleshoot it together. So, I suggest you verify that your network settings haven't changed and that the AppleTV is on the same network as your NFS/SMB servers.
Check if the IP addresses and paths (like 10.0.0.10/tank/video/) are still valid and accessible from other devices on the network.
These small steps might help.

Are you a bot or jabberwockey? All those things you propose are already mentioned in the initial post.

I still have the bookmarks from before upgrading VLC app, clicking the bookmarks exits the app, keying them in manually still works as long as I do not push save, but connect, as save returns to the app menu.

As of late some movies sound like queueing while watching, toggling the S/PDIF in sound makes the bubbly sounds go away for about 1 minute, then it has to be done again. Not sure if this is one codec in particular or what is going on, I have hardware acceleration on the AppleTV 4 enabled.

Still strange sounds after about 1 minute of playback on some video tracks; such as this one: https://tv.nrk.no/serie/jul-i-skomakerg ... /avspiller the same issue does not occur while played from the same source on an iMac neither with QuickTime, VLC nor mpv.

As already mentioned toggling SPDIF sound appears to reset to normal sound, then again to accumulate to some kind of resounding echo after about 1 minute from the toggling og S/PDIF.

I have done factory reset the AppleTV, The issues are on the AppleTV with tvOS 17.1

VLC works fine on tvOS 14.6; no odd sounds.

Same NFS source.

I have logging on for the both of them, yet I have no clue how to extract the logs.

Well, it might be a bug after an update. Hopefully, they'll fix it. But, maybe there's a trick somewhere. Personally, when I had trouble with setting VLC for my Apple TV, I found some tips on this video: https://youtu.be/vII-IleEpIg?si=BhqBspHj24skjG3a
Try to think of what kind of steps you can take from there.

This youtube video uses dropping files to a remote play, that is making a lot of micromanagment required.

Well, it's one of the methods, and if you don't like to play around with that kind of stuff, you might find a simpler solution.

Also the last 1-5 minute of some files lack sound when played back on the AppleTV, not when these same files are played back from VLC, QuickTime, or MPlayer on the iMac.
