VLC won’t open any network shares

Hello, ever since the release of tvOS 17 I cannot for the life of me even after the numerous updates get VLC to actually login and open any network shares. The server I have is running macOS El Capitan. I have no problems on any other device except Apple TVs running tvOS 17. I’ve updated and uninstalled and reinstalled and restored to factory defaults and still no luck. It’ll let me punch in username and password and when I hit login it returns to the several devices on the network but never actually logging into the server. Anyone else ever had this issue?

Note: the problem only exists on VLC. I found another app to allow me to login and explore the files but VLC just absolutely refuses
