RTL subtitles (problem)

Postby aboshab77 » 25 Aug 2023 07:32

Hello
This problem in ( tvos apple tv and android tv )
Do not forget more than 22 countries speak the Arabic language. . Likewise, the Arabic language is from right to left... not from left to right

There are some subtitles, for example, the point. In the first line on the right

You should be in the first place on the left

You must support (RTL) for Arabic subtitles

We support RTL for Hebrew and Arabic since a long time. Share a sample file so we can reproduce your specific problem.

Test this
3:30
https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtit ... mbnails-ar

This is one of the movie subtitles
-
It appears on the left (presumably first right)

the point .

It appears first on the right (presumably first on the left)

Inverted things

Note: mx player has been tried and RTL option enabled... the problem does not occur

The only problem with vlc (but not all subtitles) is an example of one of the subtitles

I just tried your sample. Indeed, the dot (.), triple dot (…) and exclamation mark (!) are shown on the right. However, question mark (?) and dash (-) appear correctly on the left. I'm not sure what is causing this. The same, incorrect behavior shows with MPV.

OK, this is a known issue: https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/issues/19411

However, there is a simple work-around on desktop computers that is not accessible to the mobile apps, which involves switching the text direction preference from "left" to auto. I'll see if we can do that on mobile more easily.

In the MX Player application, the problem does not occur because there is an option in the settings to activate RTL Android TV... but with VLC in Apple TV and Android TV, this problem occurs... The important thing is to solve it on Apple TV

- It is true that you are right-handed and not left-handed...this is a good example

. First left
- first right
… first left
? First left
