Resume play of a file (smb) in tvOS

Am I missing something?
I've been using the android/windows version most my life and never seemed to have this problem, when I exit playing a file on my appletv it doesn't return to the same point in time as in the android version. Is there a way around it?
Is it something that can be enabled?

Any chance that this feature is supported now? It works fine on my Firestick Max but not on my ATV 4K 32?

I prefer to stay with this player vs finding another.
