VLC on iOS - Access Media & Apple Music

Postby Beasti » 20 May 2022 21:23

Hey all,

why is there still no option in VLC on iOS to access media & Apple Music? A lot of music apps can do this since some years (e.g. VOX, Foobar, ...). Not talking about the "Files app", just the real media files/library imported/synced via iTunes.

Here is an article for Apple Developers (official link): https://developer.apple.com/documentati ... ic_library

Should be doable, right? Hope it gets implemented very soon.

For now we have to add the same music files to VLC additionally instead of just accessing the Apple ones (so we got a huge amount of duplicates/waste of space). I would really like to use VLC as main audio player again but for now it's VOX because of the above mentioned "easy access".

Have a good night or day :).

PS: Here is a thread from 2013: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=140751 but this is not exactly what I mean so I opened a new thread.

Hello,

We might eventually support this. However, our focus is on other parts of the app.

The main thing with Apple Music integration is that we'd not be allowed to do playback ourselves with the features VLC offers but we'd need to implement Apple's own player, so I'm unsure whether VLC can be beneficial for the user here over simply using Apple's own media playback app.

Hey :),

thanks for your response (sorry that it took a long time for my response haha).

It would be very nice if you would support this very soon.

It's about using VLC instead of any other app so it is kinda important (at least for me) even though you are not allowed to do playback with VLC features at all (yes, that is bad and sad for all of us but we all know how Apple is...). Much love to VLC and the VLC team.

So please add that option. Thank you in advance.
