An update solving this problem started to roll out today. Sorry for the unacceptably long time for the fix.

I've installed the latest version of VLC on my apple TV which is fully updated and... it still doesn't work. The username credentials for SMB removes the "domain;" part after saving. But VLC on my iphone works perfectly. Is there any update?

I just installed the latest version from the App Store and am experiencing the same issue. I tested it with SMB v1 On and Off. Also tried it with domain name of <Domain>;<username> as well as the typical windows style of <Domain>\<username>.

In all cases, I was required to enter my password every time I navigated into a new node in my SMB tree. It also would not play a video one I managed to navigate to it and attempted to play it.

Problem still not solved today.

VLC Player for Android Version 3.5.4 (2023-02-20).

Have to provide credentials with every change of current directory and when opening a file. Unworkable.

In addition to my previous post: I have found a workaround which might work for other people as well.

It is possible to configure the shares on Windows and allow anonymous access.

Then, disable the "Preferred SMB v1" checkbox, so VLC Player will not prompt you for credentials.

If the share does connect, but you get the "No Media Files" error, you probably need to edit the NTFS permissions in Windows.

In my case, I had granted read-access to EveryOne on the share, but NTFS-permissions on the map itself were insufficient.

After granting NTFS read permission on the shared map itself (right click with mouse on map, select Properties, tab Security). it worked perfectly.

Hello,

I am facing the problem too. VLC on iPad - VLC version 3.4.9 (550) - iPadOS Version 15.8 - SMB server on a QNap NAS.
Almost every time I enter a node or I select a media, VLC is prompting for credentials.
I have tried with the 2 possibilities for SMB 1 (ON / OFF) -> no change

BTW I cannot remove the recorded entries in the first connection box.
I tried to remove and reinstall VLC -> it manages to keep the entries back again after reinstall!
I don't know how I can remove them.

Can anyone help me?
At least how to clear the cache the stores those entries so I can make some other tests?

TIA.
Patrick
