Can't play m3u playlists stored in cloud storage providers

Postby lehmacdj » 01 Nov 2021 05:58

I have a relatively large media library and synchronize it to my iPhone using rsync using ifuse. Currently I just store my playlists with the rest of my media library and it also gets rsync-ed over when I update my media library. However, my playlists change quite a bit more often than I add more music, and I was recently wondering if it was possible to synchronize playlists via a cloud storage provider and still see them in the playlists tab of the VLC app. That way I could see updates to my playlists without needing to connect my phone to my computer.

So far I have tried iCloud Drive and Dropbox, but I don't seem to be able to play .m3u files from either of them. Is this supposed to be supported?

Additionally, as a stretch goal, ideally I would like the files from the cloud storage provider to appear in the Playlists tab as opposed to only in the Network tab with the rest of my media library. However, I don't expect this to be possible based on what I've read about the cloud storage provider support.

Thanks for any pointers!

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed report!

We need to make some tests for the .m3u on the cloud/network part.

Currently, the way we handle all the network related playback isn't great, and it will be reworked soon.
