Streaming SMB login forgets credentials

I’m having an issue with logging into the Mac from my iPhone using SMB. VLC won’t remember my credentials; I have to log in each time.

I’ve clicked “Save” and I see a login entry below the “Save” button. Next time I launch the app that entry is missing and I have to enter port, user, password again.

Anyone seen this before? A fix?

Happening to me and my Dad's Apple TV too after the latest update. For my Dad's Apple TV, it forgets all credentials and has to be entered each time. For mine, somehow the credentials are still there except for PORT which is a new field (and luckily not necessesary for my SMB server). Whatever I enter for PORT doesn't get saved after I select SAVE.

Only workaround I can see now is to use Connect to Server - Generic and then enter the credentials there for SMB and then save there. Then you can log in from the saved credentials list on the right. Hopefully the next update will fix the shortcut and restore the SAVE function for the SMB server on the main VLC screen.

its driving me nugts XD i got the same issue on my Apple TV.
only for my its:

Synology NAS (share ) --> Apple TV latest version (Every time its ask to login)
I did make report on the apple store about this but never get any reaction

I have the same problem with the saving of the logon credentials.

I just set up a new Apple TV running TVOS 14.2 and the 3.0.12 version of the VLC app. No credentials are saved for connections to SMB shares be it MacOS Big Sur or Windows 7/10.

On my existing Apple TV with the same software where existing credentials where added months ago, these credentials can still be used. However newly entered credentials will not be saved.

NB: Installing TVOS 14.3 RC on the new Apple TV didn't change this behaviour neither did a reinstallation of the VLC app.

Maybe this helps to find the error.

Had this issue for over 6 months on multiple Apple TV’s. I’ve become doubtful it will ever get fixed. But I’ve never had a more annoying issue.

I really hope this is true and that next update will materialize.
Can’t imagine the cumulative time lost in entering your login credentials every time...

The beta has expired so I installed the regular version again on my Apple TV. Unfortunately I deleted one of the credentials and now I cannot save the credentials again like I reported in my Dec 20 post.

Can you please release another beta or fix the general app?

Hi, have been following this thread as I had the same problem.

I’m happy to report that version 3.1.0 (404) now saves SMB credentials for my Drobo 5N (Apple TV 4K 2021, tvOS 14.6, signed in to iCloud.

It still doesn’t keep the details saved for me.
Iphone X.
Using raspberry pi server over smb.
It’s getting rather tiring to enter the ip, the port number, the user name and the password *every* single time.

Surely must be an easy fix?

I’m using test flight beta and original vlc.

Please fix this, or are apple stopping you?

I have this issue since changing to the new Apple TV 2021. Deleting and reinstalling VLC did not help. Thanks for a fix!
