Improving scrubbing when streaming videos from home network

I just downloaded the VLC for iPad app this past week, so I have no 'old versions' of the app to compare to (that seems to be a common refrain I've noticed)

I like the performance of the app as far as streaming videos from my home network, but the scrubbing feature only lets me jump forward a minute at a time basically, presumably because the video is slow to load in full? I really would like to be able to scrub straight to any part of the video as soon as it begins playing. Anyone experienced this issue / any way to improve this performance? I don't have a problem with being able to do this on other similar apps- I just like VLC better is all.
