The 3.2.1 release was uploaded yesterday.

We are currently waiting for Apple to review.
Hello,

For your information, Version: 3.2.1 (335) resolved the error of samba connection that I was having in the previous release version. However, once the smb server was connected, the connect to the server page did not close automatically; I had to tap cancel to close it.
Indeed, thanks for the heads up!

The auto closing will be fixed with the next release.
The above problem has been fixed with the Version: 3.2.2 (336). Thanks.

The problem is NOT solved with 3.2.2 (336).

I hit "Network", I am NOT prompted for my User Name or Password and I get the spinning circle - more than three minutes now and no list of folders.

VLC DOES NOT WORK.

I'm no programmer, but I expect that VLC, like many other programs, simply uses 'sockets' made available by the operating system to communicate with the outside world. SMB vn.1 has been unplugged and vn.2 plugged in - for security reasons.
If your device is 'hard-coded' with SMB vn.1, I'd say that you should either examine your need for it, or examine your need for safety.

PhredE - I just went to the trouble of disabling SMB1 on my Win 7 Pro 64-bit, leaving SMB2 running. VideoLan on iOS (on my iPad) still does not connect. I have to use an iOS app called FileExplorer to reach the videos on my LAN and "stream" them to VideoLan.
The entire 3.2 update (and I'm now on 3.2.2) is garbage.

And VideoLan is also NOT connecting to my Win 10 Pro 64-bit.

FYI - I have been exchanging emails directly with VLC, and they are SURPRISED that there are problems. I guess they don't read this forum, which is full of complaints about the new upgrade. Also, VLC's grade on the app store is now quite low.
Looks like they've lost their way.
Pity.

Hi, there is pending fixes for the next release for multiple version of SMB, but yes it's hard. We're litterally maintaining three smb libraries to handle the multiple versions and variant of VLC, and only SMBv3 is a ~sane~ protocol.

The fixes might land into VLC for android first, if you want to try.

Thank you, unidan, but I have only an iPad. When do you think we'll get that fix for iPad OS (13.1.2)?

Came here looking for answers to this issue, not at all surprised to see all the complaints. Initially my install of VLC (iPad Mini) simply stopped connecting to my network after working flawlessly for ages. Then another update and I had to go through all the rigmarole of putting in a user name and password and then cancel the connection dialogue to get to the network. Over the last few days this has now stopped working again and all I get is the spinning wheel.

In one form or another I've used VLC for decades and the PC version is still one of the top media playing programs out there but this iPad app, well, right now it's worse than useless for me. Do we have any idea at all of when it will be getting a fix??

STILL NO FIX, AFTER EIGHT WEEKS. REALLY PATHETIC. VLC'S SCORE ON APP STORE IS WAY WAY DOWN. ONE-STAR REVIEWS FROM BEGINNING TO END.

There are a few posts because many people have complained about the new version - a few posts here and hundreds in the Apple App Store.
The new version is broken - it is useless.
When will VLC fix it?

I am still having a problem with my SMB device (Vertabim MediaShare). I do not know which version of SMB it uses, but it is hardcoded and cannot be changed. I just get an empty folder when I try to connect and infinite spinner.

Can you please confirm if SMBv1 is no longer supported in VLC IOS? Would it be possible to add it back with a settings option? So people who need it can turn it back on.

It used to work with older versions of VLC and other video players work fine too.

Thanks

Neonbible - Verbatim MediaShare is a USB stick to plug into your PC, yes? What is its connection to your VLC? WIFi between computers on your LAN?

If it is an SMB issue, then I am guessing your Vertabim MediaShare is using SMB2 and VLC is not connecting because VLC DOES NOT work with SMB2.
VLC seems still to work with SMB1.
So I am guessing your Vertabim MediaShare (or its WiFi connection) is only on SMB2.

Just got a message on my iPad from VLC "Developer" that SMB2 has been working for "quite some months". No, it doesn't. I just tried again, and VideoLan for iPad will NOT connect to the Win 10 Pro 64-bit PC (version 1909) on my home LAN using SMB2. VideoLan will connect ONLY with SMB1, which is not secure. However, other apps on my iPad connect to my Win 10 PC with SMB2, so this remains VLC's big hot mess.
VLC - stop arguing and FIX THIS.

You need a file managing software which supports the share functions. I used FE FileExplorer for it (theres a free version), but I guess it will work with other apps as well. In FE you can create and establish a network connection to the NAS and navigate to the file intended to play on VLC 3.2.x. Do not open the file, stream it to VLC. In FE hit the three vertical dots behind the file and hit "Stream to...", then select VLC. VLC app will open. Hit "play" and video stream to the network source starts. While viewing, FE could be closed, because its not needed anymore.
Thanks for the tip. The first time I tried it, it worked. Now it has stopped working for no apparent reason. Fortunately FE includes a media player so I don't need to stream to VLC. I loved VLC, it did everything I wanted it to, but now it's ruined. Pity.

There is a short workaround to use VLC 3.2.x with videos or streams on network drives until VLC is able to fix SMB connection problems.

You need a file managing software which supports the share functions. I used FE FileExplorer for it (theres a free version), but I guess it will work with other apps as well. This is just a short workaround, I discovered, but I would love to see SMB connections working again in VLC.
This has worked well for me. Hopefully this will get fixed soon but for now this will work

In the Windows parameters of my NAS I had Samba protocols set to minimum of SMB1 and maximum of SMB3 and this worked with earlier versions of VLC. I have now set both values to SMB1, and VLC 3.3.2 now connects without any problems. But this does mean that _all_ Windows connections use SMB1, so it's not a very satisfactory workaround.

Having these issues aswell. Running iOS 12.5.1 on my iPad Air using VLC 3.2.13. Trying to connect to my usual samba share on a server running Ubuntu 20.04 causes VLC to show the spinning circle forever, quite literally. It worked using the previous version of VLC just fine. Would really appreciate a fix for this. Samba is set to SMB2 and SMB3, even trying to switch to SMB1 causes the samba server to refuse to even start so I can't test that.
