SRT Files on AppleTV-4K?

So I gotta say, this is a great app. Seems to play anything I throw at it on my brand new Apple TV - 4K.

However, it refuses to see the srt files and display them...works fine on my Android tablet, Dune HD and Windows 10 PC.

Yes, the files are in the same directory with the same name etc.
Swipe down and no options are available. Embedded subtitles seem fine.

It's kinda hard to watch Godzilla movies in the original Japanese without this feature working!

Is there something obvious I'm missing here? There's very little in the settings to indicate anything that can be adjusted for this.

Any thoughts or hints?

Okay, so it seems the App Store in CANADA is stuck at 3.02. WTF is wrong with Apple.

VLC was the reason I got the latest AppleTV - 4k, I should have just gone with the Nvidia Shield.

Sigh.

Is there any way to somehow get the Borg to post the latest code in the Apple App Store?

We should just update the Apple TV app. In this case, it's not Apple to blame but us.

I see Version '3.1.1 • Apple TV - tvOS' posted as the latest version on the VLC site.

I was thinking that perhaps this was an iTunes issue as they don't always necessarily promote newer versions into other geographies?

No, that was a mistake on our website. I just corrected it to show 3.0.2 instead.

I discussed with the team and we hope to synchronize releases for both iOS and tvOS now.

Hi everyone,

I am using VLC 3.0.2 on a 4th generation (2K) Apple TV. I still can't get .srt subtitles get to work. I am streaming from a UPnP device, the subtitels are in the same folder as the movie, and have the same file name (except the extension). Is there a way to fix this? (the same subtitles work fine in VLC 3.0.3 on maOS)
