VLC IOS 3.11: Autorotation and landscape mode.

I’m still having problems with videos rotating after 3.10 and 3.11. Its not possible to watch videos in landscape mode when the phone isn’t. Since English isn’t my native language I’m having problems explaining this correctly, but the standard video app in iOS works, the YouTube app works and VLC used to work until 3.10.

A “workaround” is to use the vlc rotation lock, but if that’s activated all the buttons are grayed out and none of the gestures work. Using the rotation lock is also a hassle when you’re laying in bed sideways watching videos and turning to the other side.

I don't understand the issue.
What would be the correct way? Do you want to be able to play a video un landscape while being in portrait with phone?

Yes. On all other video apps the videos turn to landscape mode when the phone is turned 90 degrees to the left, as they do in VLC, but on other apps they stay in landscape mode when the phone is turned another 90 degrees left. In VLC th videos turnes every time the phone is turned, in all directions. Just try to watch a video in the YouTube app and try it out. YouTube works correctly as I see it.

And if I’m not mistaken this was the normal VLC behavior until 3.10. Something happened with 3.10.

So this would be the correct behaviour:

• Launch video (portrait mode)
• Turn left 90 degrees, the video goes to landscape
• Turn left 90 degrees, nothing changes, the video stays in landscape
• Turn left 90 degrees, the video change landscape orientation
• Turn left 90 degrees, original position.

If this is correct, I will discuss it with the dev team and keep you updated!

Yes, that’s exactly the way it should work in my opinion. Basically when the phone is turned upside down and the speakers and the home button points upwards it should stay in the same landscape mode it was at before the phone was turned. The way if works in Safari, actually. It seems like the method you summed up above is the way the rotation in most apps work.

I hate to nag, but what’s the status of 3.12? This issue is seriously annoying and I hope it’s not to hard to fix.

Any updates after a further 15 months? This undesirable behaviour is still present in VLC 3.1.7 for Android, and I see no tracked issue for it:
