VLC 3.03 forIOS video files missing

Postby stem300 » 03 Apr 2018 23:23

I am using the VLC 3.03 app for IOS.
My All Files of mp4 videos are listed and saved individually and or grouped in folders. After watching a video I will delete the file by either clicking edit and selecting a file and deleting it. The other way is to slide to the left and a delete option appears for that video, then I'll click on delete. On two occasions, I've deleted video files by sliding and clicking delete. And on these occasions, I've lost all my other individually listed video files as well as my folder of videos.
I've added the video back and created the same folder, but it says the folder already exist with my videos showing in the folder. (All my other folders appear as well.) However, once the message is gone, I am not able to access the folders. I am not able to see any videos, in folders or individually listed.
To remedy this, I've had to delete the app and re-load all my video files again and create new folders.

Is this a bug in the system or am I doing something wrong?
thanks in advance

Hi Stem300,

this is a bug in the system that we weren't able to reproduce sadly. If you have a consistent way to reproduce this issue and could tell us the exact steps how you got into this state you would help us so so much!

Best,
Caro

Yo cargue 30 vídeos y de repente se me borraron 20. Los vídeos siguen estando en el ipad porque si accedo con la IP DESDE el móvil los veo pero en la aplicación del iPad no los encuentro

I could confirm the problem described by stem300. I am also using VLC 3.03 on iPad. After deleting a video from one folder, all files from that folder disappeared in VLC. Then I started the files app on iPad and saw the missing videos. I was able to start them from the files app but they never appeared again in VLC.

In addition to that, some videos do not appear in VLC at all after uploading them via the browser. I could see them in the browser on the Mac and in the files app on iPad but not in VLC.

Thanks for confirming the problem. I was also able to view the missing files elsewhere, but wasn't able to do anything with it. Couldn't put it back in the VLC app. It was easier to delete the app and download again. Had to do this twice.
Since my post, I haven't been able to replicate the problem.

I have the same problem. I deleted one file and then a bunch of files went missing.
When I look in to the storage of my IPAD, I can see that VLC has 22Gb of videos, so clearly, it did not delete the files, they are just nowhere to be seen in the App, but clearly still on the HHD of the IPAD.
What can I do to recover them ?

I’m not sure whether the problem I have reported here is the same.

https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=144189

But a couple of weeks ago I had the same problem as in this thread, where I deleted one file from a folder and the whole folder disappeared. Maybe these problems are related?

We found one case where we reproduced this issue. A fix will come with 3.1 and then this should hopefully not happen anymore

Recently I updated vlc to version 3.2.1 (335) for iPad and more than half of my files has been lost!

I have iOS 10.3.3, I do not want to update my iOS because iPad will run slower.

To find your files, your folders will eventually be automatically turned into playlists a few minutes after updating vlc. Until then, you will see nothing in the playlists section.

The other way is to scroll up in the video section and use the search bar above.

I was able to get the files to reappear. I went to the Files app, then the VLC folder, then I renamed the video that was not appearing. It then appeared in the VLC app. Subsequent files that I copied over started appearing. I'm suspecting one of the problems is the initial copy. I was trying to copy 6 videos at once. Maybe my Macbook went to sleep or the copy timed out. My initial fix was deleting the app and copy a video over 1 at a time. When I tried 2 videos, this happened again.
