Simple question from first time user

I'm probably overlooking something simple... Macbook pro current software. iPad 2 also up to date. Trying to transfer movie from mac to iPad using "Sharing via Wi-Fi" get the IP address of computer from VLC on iPad, enter into Safari address bar on Mac. Drag file over, percentage counter goes up, iStat menus on Mac says uploading at about 3.5mbs. Come back 10 minutes later, everything seems to be happy. Look on iPad VLC app under Media Library/All Files, says "Empty Media Library". Close and reopen app. Ditto. Reboot iPad, reopen app. Ditto.

Did recheck the IP address for Mac, was entered correctly. On iPad Setting/General/iPad Storage says VLC only using 40.8mg, so I guess the movie didn't really upload, perhaps just uploaded into an Ether-wastebasket? Permissions issue?

Ideas?
