VLC on iPad - Local network SMB - sometimes sees shares, sometimes doesnt

Hi Hoping someone can help.

There are threads around SMB not playing at all, crashing or not seeing shares but nothing similar to my issue i can find. VLC on my iPad sometimes works fine when playing from a local server with a drive shared that has folder in categories of films.

When it lists these i can browse the directories and play the videos fine - but more often than not when i connect with the stored credentials it just whirls like its loading in the top left but doesnt show any shares.

Ive checked the event logs on the server - nothing.
Uninstalled and reinstalled VLC - no difference
Retyped the password - nothing
Restarted iPad - no luck
disabled firewalls - no change

the share has permissions and it works fine with other devices or streaming apps but just not this. Its particularly frustrating as it sometimes works absolutely fine but 95% of the time it appears to be loading - ive left this loading for 20 minutes before and its still shown nothing -anyone had a similar issue? anything i can try to resolve?

Same problem for me with the difference that It never works occasionally always the spinning. I made a post about it a week ago here, but no replies.

Are your drives on a Windows 10 PC? Im starting to wonder if Microsoft changed something/patched network sharing and introduced a new bugg.

That's the first time we receive such a report. Your SMB server is on the same network as your iPad? What sort of SMB server is it and in which version? Is this is a IPv4 or IPv6 network?

Hi - thanks for replying.

Its all on the standard internal 192.168.1.x 255.255.255.0 network
The server is just a bog standard file share from server 2012 R2.

And its all ipv4. 6 is disabled.

Ive also tried it from a windows 7 pc as a share and the same thing happens - SMB as the protocol and sometimes it will list directories and files, and play fine. most of the time it doesnt.

I'm also experiencing this same issue with VLC on my iPad. Previously, it was able to load and play files over SMB just fine, but now doesn't see them anymore. I also get the spinning/searching icon up at the top left side of the screen.

I've reinstalled VLC on the iPad, tried sharing different folders through SMB, restarted all my devices and my wifi router, etc. Nothing seems to help.

Other video players apps on my iPad are able to play the shared files with no issue. I also have VLC installed on my iPhone, and it works fine (so far). I'm only experiencing the problem with VLC on my iPad.

First excuse my english , i will try to explain my problem the clearest i can.

Ok i am using the VLC appli. on my A1Box connect to sony tv , i have a pc with a repertory where i put the video that i try to play on my tv. First it works fine i click on the button local network on the VLC appli. and after that appears mypc smb files and i click and it reach the files in mypc. Suddenly it doesnt work anymore. Why ?

Somebody can aswer my question pls
