iPad Playlist

Postby bkeilt@gmail.com » 17 Jan 2018 20:11

I am using an iPad and just tried VLC: the VLC interface for downloading files from PC is awesome ("Sharing via WiFi").

However, I am stunned that the audio content I've brought down is just jumbled on the screen of the iPad in no apparent order! There is no playlist ability; no moving or manual organizing. I must scroll through ALL my albums to find the one I want to play; (I would like to see it organized by Artist or Song, my choice.) The "Folder" function (after "edit"), does not work, and I don't think that's a solution anyway.

This results in virtually an unusable media player without some form of organization. Sorry to be critical, as a retired software developer, I know you've put massive work into this. I use the PC version all the time and it is outstanding and complete. Is the iPad version just in its infancy?

There is a "hack" mentioned in the forum, but it is complex, and, frankly, a ridiculous solution to this basic functionality requirement.

Thank you.

A not so complex workaround for now is to switch to the tableview layout and use the searchbar.

Other than that we're currently reworking the UI to include sorting functionality but crashes and stability improvements + iPhone X UI updates were recently the top priority.
On top of that we're moving to a shared Medialibrary where we're in the middle of reworking the wrapper. This will sadly take some time to get right.

Carola: thanks for that response. I tried the table view. However, when I type into the search bar and press "search", the search value disappears and it doesn't present the results of the search. Just shows everything still. It behaves flakey. OK, thanks for the help; I know you are working hard for us, I'll wait for an update......

It updates the results while you search but it definitely should not go back to all results once you hit enter. Tha's yet another bug...
The next update will be about stability and the one after includes some iOS 11 features. After that we're back to working on the new UI.
We're just as much looking forward to that update as you ;)
