My daughter decided to switch from android to iPhone. All of our music is ripped to ogg/vorbis, so I'm trying to use the VLC for ios app for playback. When I upload ogg/vorbis files via wifi sharing, nothing shows up in the 'albums' tab. They do show up under 'all files', but that isn't very helpful (see below).
The ogg files have metadata and albums are automatically detected via other apps (e.g. Google PlayMusic on my android phone). Here's an example of the metadata
$ vorbiscomment -l 01*
DESCRIPTION=Exact Audio Copy
title=Every Story is a Love Story
artist=Original Broadway Cast
genre=Musical
date=2000
album=Aida
tracknumber=1
Is this a bug in VLC, or am I just doing something wrong ? Is there a workaround?
I initially thought that playing via 'all files' might be a workaround, but the directory structure is apparently not maintained when doing an upload via wifi sharing, so all the albums are mixed together. You can organize them by hand, but that's labor intensive enough that it's not reasonable when you have a lot of albums. I tried creating m3u files and uploading them via wifi sharing, but the m3u files don't show up in 'all files'. VLC/ios does contain some support for m3u files because I can play them when browsing to my home file server via 'local network', so perhaps it could be exposed in the 'all files' tab...
Anyway, I'd appreciate some suggestions on how I can make this work reasonably well.
Thanks!
