Server Connection Failed Apple TV with Plex Server

I have searched on this topic to start, but am not able to find what seems like it would be a simple answer

Recently set up Apple Tv, setup the plex server on my MAC and downloaded the Plex app for apple TV. I can do all the things I should be able to with that setup, but of course I want to use VLC to play other type of files Plex app does not handle.

When I go into the app, I can see my plex server on the Local Network, but when I click on it I get a "server connection failed". Granted there was no place with the VLC app I could find to login to the Plex server, even when I went through settings. What am I missing here?

Bear in mind, the network is live, and conects to server using the plex apple tv app so this has to be a problem of VLC app talking to the Plex server
