VLC on TvOS - Show MKV Artwork

Postby Naf » 11 Feb 2017 17:13

Hi all, and thanks for this great work on VLC!
I installed on the Apple TV gen 4, and I read MKV videos hosted on a network share, which works perfectly.
The only thing I'm driving mad about is the cover art for the mkv files. Basically none of my files is shown with graphics, they're all generic icons. Except for one single MKV file, which magically shows the movie poster instead of the generic icon.
I tried many ways to add cover art to the other files to have a much more beautiful way to navigate, but no luck so far.
I basically tried to 1) embed cover art with VLC on Windows, adding the image into the metadata information and saving; and 2) adding the jpeg files with the correct naming into the MKV containers and remuxing.
I don't understand why that single file works!!!
Any advice?
Thanks!!!

I'm not sure I'm going to be a lot of help here however, I am also looking to do the same thing.

I did some research online and the general concensus seemed to be that there was no simple/quick way of applying album art/cover art to mkv's unlike, for example, the mp4 format which is a breeze.

If anyone ever does figure this out though, I'd love to know as half my collection of films are in mkv format, all without cover art whereas my mp4 collection are all cover-arted.
