regarding Apple TV multicast support

I have a question about the way VLC player can support multicast stream.

As I heard, tvos(Apple TV) does not support multicast stream officially, so it is not recommended to use multicast RTP or UDP instead of HLS(Http Live Streaming).

But VLC media player app for Apple TV, works well with multicast streaming.

I wonder how it could be possible?

Is it true that VLC player app converts multicast stream to unicast stream internally to support multicast stream? (like a kind of app proxy)
