TVVLCKit-3.0.0 with bitcode enabled available for download

Postby elrules » 18 Jan 2017 11:05

Hi everyone,

after days of trial and error trying to compile the TVVLCKit with bitcode support finally last night at 4:00AM I did it. As I know there are a lot of people with same problem I am sharing it via dropbox for anyone that wants to download it.

The build is TVVLCKit 3.0.0 from Dec 1, 2016. I compiled it thanks to the instructions of @gerlich and @ssbmaccom in this thread:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=135879

Code: Select all

1. rm -Rf VLCKit # Delete the current clone of VLCKit to restart from new one. 2. git clone https://code.videolan.org/videolan/VLCKit.git #clone VLCKit current version 3. cd VLCKit #move to VLCKit directory 4. git reset --hard 2453a955435b9cae2c1637274416a4841ce66909 #move to working commit version Dec 1, 2016 5. Edit buildMobileVLCKit.sh to add bitcode support using the patch of the following paragraph 6. ./buildMobileVLCKit.sh -tf #Build VLCKit for tvOS and Simulator with bitcode

Code: Select all

To compile it, it is very important the environment you choose. I did it with a clean install of Mac OS El Capitan with only one version of Xcode installed, which was 7.2.1

Here is the download link of the compiled library:

Thanks to all the other users that helped me. I hope this link is useful for other developers.

Hi,

if anyone has downloaded this build, he may have experienced bad playback. Some streams play very nice but some others just exit the player or the sound is cut. The same is happening with the cocoapod version a24 so it is not a problem of the way I compiled it. Does anyone know which version or which commit is using the VLC app for tvOS? cause the same streams that play awfully on 3.0.0a24, just play very nice on the official VLC app.

I tried it and my TS Streams are played quite well, except one issue: PAL SD streams (576i) loose their aspect ratio - this can be 16:9 or 4:3 depending on stream attributes. I was able to reproduce this with a local build I made.

But the good news is, that Felix finally was able to fix the build issues and nightlies are back. He also added the Bitcode fix I suggested to the build script and libvlc was rebased as well. Even I am not able to build TVVLCKit on my local machine (I had to update to macOS Sierra to run Xcode beta - but some tools seem not to be compatible), but for now the nightly is fine for me. The AR issue on SD PAL streams is not present in the nightly I tried (Feb. 4th).
