VLC for TVOS support for alternative remote control protocol

Hi,

VLC on OSX provides keyboard shortcuts that give me quick access to adjust the playback speed - no mess, no fuss.
Adjusting the playback speed on TVOS is fiddly, due to the nature of the Siri Remote..

Is there a remote control protocol (or other API) that I can use from a Mac/PC to send commands to VLC running on the Apple TV?
