AirPlay converts AC3 audio to Stereo

I turned on AirPlay mirroring to get video to my AppleTV 3, which is connected by HDMI to a Denon AVR which is connected to my TV.

It's great that VLC app plays back AC3 and DTS files. I loaded an MKV which on Infuse requires upgrade to Infuse 4 Pro in order to decode AC3 and DTS.

The same MKV via AirPlay comes out as a stereo track though.

Are there plans to support AC3 and DTS output via AirPlay?

I'm assuming it's possible because the HBO Go app. from the same iPad does still send AC3 through AirPlay to the same setup (AppleTV 3 connected by HDMI to Denon AVR and TV).
