VLC for tvOS won't play any files

Hello

I can't get any MKV files or any files at all to play in VLC for tvOS anymore. The files worked fine in the past, they work with other (crappier) video players, but now every time I try to play a file, it just grinds away, and it never plays.

Playing files via SMB share on AppleTV. any suggestions? I am not play the files from Time Capsule, I am playing them from my Macbook. the local network seems to be fine, and as I said, crappier players aren't having this issue, nor is Apple's.
