Font size for soft subtitles

Postby sbgo » 24 Dec 2015 23:18

Is it possible to change the font size for embedded subtitles? Because they're impossibly tiny on an iPad. I've tried setting the font size to largest, but I think that only works for .srt files.

This depends on the subtitle format. Some formats cannot be changed in size, probably like yours.

I tried the mp4 on a Mac in OS X using VLC and I was able to increase the font size. So not sure why I can't tweak it in VLC for iOS.

The embedded subtitles, are they in the SSA format?

Probably the easiest is to use VLC for Mac -> Window -> Information and then Codec Details.

It says:

Stream 2:
Type: Subtitle
Codec: Text subtitles with various tags (subt)
Language: English

I have had the same issue since the 2.7.0 update and it still occurs in 2.7.1.

When displaying tx3g subtitles muxed in a m4v-container the font size becomes ridiculously small. Displaying external srt subtitles works just fine.

Any make progress with this? I am having the same problem- external SRT subtitles show just fine but any subs I have added through a mkvtomp4 shell change are showing up extremely small. Font change and text render options in VLC don't help. Please help

Looks like we completely broke that option in 2.7.0 and 2.7.1. It is fixed in 2.7.2 which is currently waiting for review. We hope that it will be approved by Apple until early next week.

Thanks for speedy work. But now the close caption (on/off) toggle icon is completely lost in 2.7.2 on soft-subbed video.

The CC icon is there for files with external SRT's.

I'm still having the issue with 2.7.2, embedded srt displaying with unreadably tiny font regardless of what relative font size (or font) is selected in settings.
Selection of subtitle is still there, though it lists the chapter track as a subtitle track as well. FWIW, the chapter track displays a single time number, but in a good font size.

Subs were added in Subler, and for the Subtitle Track it lists Normal and Scaled Size as 720x60 pixels, preserve aspect ratio, ratio 1x1, offset 0x345 pixels.
