iPad: MPEG2-ts files from local SMB share problematic

Postby lokari » 20 Mar 2016 11:09

Hey there,

I've got a TV recording server running in my network that dumps DVB-S tv programm to the hard drive in Mpeg2-ts format. Playing them with VLC on the iPad via SMB basically works - until i try to change the play position (via the scrubber). This is a total mess. First if i for example position the scrubber at about the half of the video the play position jumps to a random position between the last actual play position and the position where i set the marker at. Also playback after that action isn't working well anymore. It stops every few seconds and seems to have real trouble to get back to normal again.

I'm not sure if this is a general SMB/Network problem (Wifi connection is quite good and as long as i don't scrub it does play without any issues) or a problem with the videos i have. If it is the latter i could probably hand any of the responsible coders one of the recordings so you could have a look. The one I was actually trying was one from the German public TV (Station is called ZDF) which was recorder in 720p50. Others refused to play as AC3 Audio doesn't seem to be supported.
