Apple TV 4 Sound
I am trying to play MKV file through VLC and cannot get 5.1 sound / only 2.0. What am I doing wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong at all. VLC for Apple TV does only support Stereo at this point. Sorry for any inconvenience.
