Small tx3g subtitle size on Apple TV 4

Postby cinergi » 02 Feb 2016 04:19

Hello,

When playing MP4 files with embedded tx3g subtitle tracks on the Apple TV 4, the subtitles are tiny to the point that I can barely read them from a normal viewing distance and have to strain my eyes. I couldn't find any way to adjust the subtitle size in the VLC Player settings. Is there any way to increase the size?

When I play the same file on VLC for Mac, the subtitle size is normal. This thread https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... hilit=tx3g describes what seems to be the same issue in a previous version of VLC for Mac.

The tx3g subtitles were muxed into the MP4 using Subler (if it matters).

Thanks!

Does it help to enlarge the subtitles font size in the Settings panel on Apple TV? (the settings panel within VLC)

No, I tried this. The subtitle size remains the same (very very small) regardless of the size setting in VLC. Seems to be a bug with embedded tx3g handling? As I noted previously, VLC on the Mac shows the subtitles properly (same file).

A small sample file on http://streams.videolan.org/upload would be highly appreciated.

I'll try to make one, but there's nothing special about my file. It's just an MP4 container with H.264 video and embedded tx3g subtitles muxed in using Subler. I have multiple files like this (all large unfortunately) and they all have the problem.

Hello,

I've uploaded a file named test_clip.mp4 using the link provided above. It illustrates the problem with the small subtitle size.

Thanks!

Sorry, I didn't find time to look at that yet - hopefully some time next week.

I got the same problem after updating to 2.7.x on my iPad Air and iPhone 6. Even my old files that were already on them and used to work fine are now presenting with tiny subtitles that i can't configure.

I'm also using tx3g subtitles on mp4 files using subler
