Using VLC as streaming client for VDR

Postby e1l52 » 14 Feb 2016 13:56

I am using VLC as a streaming client for VDR on Linux/MacOS/Windows for a long time. Works absolutely great !
I just have to open the by VDR provided URL http://vdr:3000/channels.m3u and get all live TV channels. Switch and select a new channel is easy possible using the playlist button.
I would like to do the same now on an Apple iPad Pro. Opening the URL above works fine, live streaming starts with the first channel in the m3u file. But I do not find a playlist button to switch to another channel.
Anybody with an idea how to get this ?
Thanks a lot for your help !

I ran into a similar issue with VLC for AppleTV.
Feeding it a m3u file containing all live TV stations of my STB opens the first station, but it is not possible to switch to another station, while it works fine on OS X.
That's the reason, why I started to build my own App for AppleTV utilizing the OpenWebIF interface to get access to the streams and play them back through VLCKit. Unfortunately I run into other problems now, that's why my App is still not available in the AppStore (and it is intended to publish it for free, maybe even as OpeSource). But that's another topic I put into other threads.

We intend to add a UI for this use-case, both for Apple TV and iOS.

Any news on that one?

I've come up with this fix for my installation:

On Desktop:
- Browse to http://vdr:3000/all.html
- Save page as
- Open page in Editor and replace all http:// with vlc://http://
- Save page in html folder of VDR server (e.g. as VLC.html)

On iPad:
-Browse to http://vdr/VLC.html and click any channel
-Confirm opening with VLC
-Select Play

I wonder if those 2 dialogs can be disabled...
