VLC 2.6.0 is BUGGY AS HELL

Postby Pazti » 04 Jul 2015 09:56

Hi guys,
Sorry for the negative feedback, we do appreciate your work, but it seems that version 2.6.0 could be call a bug release. There so many bugs with video (because of the mini player) and subtitles, which makes this version unusable for most.
Please be careful about these things, since in ios there is no way of downgrading.
Best wishes and keep up the good work

For subtitles, please check if your issue is similar to ticket 14978.

What's wrong with the mini player? Is it just that most videos are starting minimized at first and need to be brought to fullscreen by the user after playback started? (see ticket 14985) Or do you experience further issues?

One of the most annoying bugs in the latest update is that when my gadget is in landscape orientation, the miniplayer does not show up. Therefore, whenever I tap on a video, the sound begins to play, but both the video and the miniplayer are nowhere to be seen. If I cannot see the miniplayer, how the hell can I view the video?

I found a temporary fix for this problem, but I do hope that the VLC team will fix this themselves as soon as possible.

1. You need to open the app while your gadget is in Portrait orientation.
2. Tap on a video, and when it begins to play, tap on the miniplayer.
3. Upon tapping on the miniplayer, you can now change the orientation to landscape by tilting your device sideways.

FYI, I am encountering this problem on an iPad Air 1 running on iOS 7.

So that's what it is... thanks for figuring this out. It isn't a proper fix of course. Hopefully, a new version will be posted soon. The mini-player idea I don't like at all! My iPad is a 4th-gen model still running iOS 6.

The other big disaster was rebuilding the thumbnails of my video collection... I stopped counting how many times VLC crashed and had to be restarted. And still it took an agonizingly long time to rebuild all the thumbnails... this was a serious problem some versions back but in this new version things have changed for the worst in this area!

Another oddity is that the last two videos in my collection don't display in the list of existing videos... one has to push past the bottom of the list to see their thumbnails, but they don't stay, the display springs back and hides them. Odd!

Is fixed in VLC iOS 2.6.1. This black bar concealed the media-library right?

With version 2.6.1, the initial display of my video library, either in single or triple column works fine... initially, trying to play a video in portrait mode *does* display the mini-player. But I go to landscape mode the mini-player disappears and there's no way to stop / play this or any subsequent video, in either portrait / landscape mode... from there on, things get very confused and I can't play any videos successfully. I am on an iPad 4th gen with iOS 6.

The issue you describe with the mini player is resolved for 2.6.2. It does not occur on iOS 8 or later, which is why we didn't catch it during our beta tests.

2.6.2 is currently waiting for review and should be available within a week.

Indeed, no problem now on my iOS 6 iPad... thank you for this new version 2.6.2... and sorry to still be on iOS 6!
