Download wmv files from website to ipad using vlc player

Please except a question from a newbie. Some weeks ago I installed VLC on my ipad to download some wmv files from a website. This was successful.

Now when I try, I touch the link on the website and leave my finger on the link expecting a box to pop up and ask me which program I want to use to download the file. This is what happened before. Now, I do not see an option to use VLC player, just an option to open.

Any ideas anyone please?

Is it already associated with VLC? When you open the link, does it open in VLC?

what I am saying is that I can no longer use the VLC player to download a wmv file to my ipad. When I first installed the player I could touch a link to a wmv file and it would give me an option to download to VLC. Now I just get the option to open. I still have some wmv files that I downloaded on my ipad and they play just fine but U cannot download new wmv files. Is it possible that Apple have prevented this with their latest ios update.

it sounds like this is apple iOS 8.2 not a VLC application feature being turned off.
