VLC causing iPad to restart

On my non jailbroken iPad2 running 7.0.4 and VLC 2.2.2 I was playing a movie and every few minutes the iPad would hard crash and restart. I see lots of files like

ResetCounter-2014-02-18-130xxx.plist

in the diagnostics folder (not sure if related but the times seems right)

The movie i was playing was this format, if this helps,

RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 1280 x 528, ~30 fps, video: XviD, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (stereo, 44100 Hz)

Strange that a user level program can cause the iPad to hard crash/reset.

BTW, I play _tons_ of movie files on my ipads and iphone and have never seen this before

wow. This means driver issue.

This is a known issue in iOS 7 (in fact, it's SpringBoard, who's crashing) and will be resolved in the golden and bright future. That's all I know from public sources. Stay tuned!
