VLC times out during download from FTP/NAS

VLC doesn't keep the screen awake long enough to download anything bigger, and as soon as the screen times out I get tan error message and file stops downloading. Is there any way round it?

This is a known problem which we intend to fix in the next update.

As a work-around, you could watch a movie you already downloaded or stream another movie stored on your ftp or NAS server...
