Cannot lock device when streaming to tv

When playing a file from vlc for ios to the apple tv it works fine. However when locking the device the video stops within 2 seconds.
Is there not a fix for this or fixable? It sucks up my battery life very fast when the screen must be on to stream...

Regrettably, VLC can't stream to the Apple TV with the devices locked due to the way Apple implemented AirPlay mirroring and since they decided to not publish the video protocol part of AirPlay, which allows the default player to stream content in the background or with a locked screen.
There are ways to work-around this, but since this would require the use of private APIs, we may not publish such a version on the App Store.

That is a shame. Thanks for the answer anyway. Stopid that apple decided that their own apps must always be better.

Is releasing a cydia tweak wich fixes this not an option?

Edit: just see that youre main developper? Nice to get a answer straight from the coder himself:)

Imo: just release a second version in cydia probaly even more thing you can add then.

I think the best chance we have on playing on apple tv in standby is you^^
I don't know how hard it will be to make it with a work around or private api but it could be as easy as copying you current build with the private api or whatever to cydia. Then command cydia to copy replace it with the from-app store build.

This is critical issue on iphone-x because of amoled screen.

The problem is when screen locks then audio continues to play but video does not.

Is it possible to change ^^^ above mentioned background image to complete black ? Because after movie shadow corresponding to that TV-icon is always visible on the screen

hey Alex,

I created a ticket for this issue.
I agree we should fix the playback if possible for the case that the phone is locked.
We're gonna look into it but I can't promise that we get around to this in the near future.
