VLC 2.1.3 for iOS shows all files on local network with 0MB

Postby Santana2 » 02 Nov 2013 09:29

Hello folks

I recently installed vlc for iOS on my iPad. I have a Mezzmo Media Server installed on my PC, to watch movies on my Samsung TV. In VLC, the Mezzmo media server is shown correctly, even the filestructure is available. The very first time, I was able to play 3-4 videos of different formats on my iPad. But suddenly, all files (regardless of size, media format, even Music) are shown as file size 0MB. If I open one, it shows a pixelated picture of the Cover or a frameshot of the movie. It's like it shows me only the covers of the files and no longer the file itself. I tried many things on the Mezzmo configurations, turning all covers off for example. Nothing.

I did install XBMC and set up their media server, works like a charm on vlc for iOS.

Has someone any idea what the problem might be? I reinstalled vlc and Mezzmo a couple of times now.

Sounds interesting. I'll try to setup such a server on my windows machine and check what's wrong. Thanks for the feedback!

Just thought I would add that I suffer from the exact same problem as described by the OP.
My xbox, PS3 and TV connect and stream media fine. I can however use VLC to successfully browse my friends NAS Box, but wont work on my setup however??

I also have the very same problem. VLC player on iPad air and WDC my book world live duo.

VLC player is also extremely slow to find the WDC bookworld (10 - +100 seconds).

I often have to click connect to ftp sever to make vlc app wake up and show WDC bookworld.

Edit add:
I have problem with WDC bookworld internal disks defined on a share. This share is controlled by the media server on the WDC. I must have the media server active on WDC, otherwise vlc cannot see it.

I have an usb disk connected to the WDC bookworld. It has a share defined. VLC media player plays everything fine on this share. It's like this NAS share on USB is accessed as a network share, rather than a media server.

I also have the same problem with VLC on my iPad when I connect to my QNAP TS-212 running the DLNA media server. Every single file shows up as 0 bytes, regardless of the real size. When I try to play the file nothing at all happens.

I managed to reproduce the issue by now and hope to have a fix ready in time for our next update!

I have the exact same issues, my setup was an ipad and a WD My Book Live NAS. Strange thing is that it was working perfectly fine (even MKVs) with the Twonky 5.x.x that shipped with the drive, but once I upgraded it to 7.x.x, all files showed as 0.0 mb and nothing would play.

Hope the pending update fixes it!

I'm having the same problem concerning my WD MyCloud. VLC shows the device under Local Network (uPnP) and also shows the files. However, the files are all listed as 0.00mb can't be played. Any idea's? I've seen more people here with the same problem but couldn't find a solution for it.

There is no solution for the end-user right now. However, a fix will be included in the next update of VLC for iOS this month.

I fixed the issue today. As soon as we resolved further pending tasks, the app will be submitted for review. Might be this weekend, might next week. Work done by volunteers in their spare time is hard to schedule, you know. ;)

Thanks for the fast response Felix!

I know, and I wasn't trying to apply pressure or anything, just being curious about a time frame :) Good luck!

I am seeing the same issues too with the new WD Personal Cloud (model no:WDBCTL0020HWT ). Can't wait for the new version to appear in the AppStore for me to test it. Thanks VLC team for the quick fix!

Any word on a bug fix release date? Would really like to use this, but it is kind of useless when every file is at 0.00mb.

Thanks.

Yeeea! NAS stream works with the newest update (including NAS download)! Great work! It still says something like 0.0 kB or MB, but it works!

One thing I noted: It does not automatically identify .srt files (named identical to the video file) over the NAS, so there is no way to see subtitles unless they are integrated into the videofile. Possible to fix?

Anyway, great update, Cheers!

Thanks guys for confirming the fix! Excellent :)

@.srt files: well, yeah, I have a hackish solution in mind, not sure how feasible it is, so far :)

Does anyone have any idea why playing a nas video (720p mkv) on a iPad mini, while streaming through airplay to an Apple TV is lagging? I wonder where the problem is, because the same video, playing off the nas, on the iPad runs perfectly. Is there a problem with streaming through airplay?

Try a network cable between your router and ATV. Have been known to remove lag when streaming to ATVs.
