This is the best news. Been hoping Chromecast VLC would support .srt files soon. Thanks for the great work and I look forward to version 3.6.3!This is a known issue that we already fixed (coming in 3.6.3+).
Hello, I'm one of the unlucky ones who has yet to see the rollout of 3.6 to my firestick. Is there anywhere I can go on my firestick to go and download a beta version of 3.6 so that I can try downloading using open subtitles and help to test out the process? This is a known issue that we already fixed (coming in 3.6.3+). In the meantime, you can change the permission to the full one (Settings > Permissions > All file access) to temporary fix the issue.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Not until VLC 4 unfortunatelyBeen hoping Chromecast VLC would support .srt files soon.

Thank you Aza. I was able to successfully download 3.6.3 from the hyperlink that you sent me. Unfortunately I am seeing the same issues with the inability to download subtitles from open subtitles. Just like the OP I am able to now successfully see a list of subtitles to download, but when I select the top one it just spins indefinitely. I did go and double check my permissions and I have the permissions for VLC set to everything, being able to access all files, but it does not seem to make a difference. Not until VLC 4 unfortunatelyBeen hoping Chromecast VLC would support .srt files soon.

You can take this file: VLC-Android-3.6.3-armeabi-v7a.apk and it will be updated when we release on the Amazon AppStore.
Were you able to successfully download subtitles after changing permissions in VLC?This is the best news. Been hoping Chromecast VLC would support .srt files soon. Thanks for the great work and I look forward to version 3.6.3!This is a known issue that we already fixed (coming in 3.6.3+).
I would be happy to share the logs although I admit I'm having a little bit of trouble figuring out how to get them off of the device. I was able to successfully obtain the logs and seemingly paste them to my clipboard. My trouble is in figure out how to get them uploaded to a sharing service. In doing some googling it appears as though I have to initiate some sort of ADB connection between my firestick and my PC, although when I tried running the commands in the command prompt it wasn't working. I can continue to try, unless you have a better suggestion for how I can get those logs off the firestick and uploaded.@Puzzledllama054 : weird. Could you please share some logs? Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).
Thank you, I was able to pull the files off of the Firestick using the remote access in the app. I have sent copies of the logs to both you and Aza via PM.You can also use the new remote access from the app (you can enable it from the settings) to share files between your device and your computer.
