Android TV nightly – won't remember last played poition, gets stuck loading SMB shares

My Android TV broke in early December 2024 and was only fixed in early January 2025 – new motherboard. This meant reinstalling everything, including VLC for Android. I was using the nightlies before as well, so I continued with them. And since 9th January, every single version has suffered from the following two problems:

1. The player won't remember the last played file and position. Yes, the "Resume played video" settings is on. But it simply no loner works, even if the TV turns on the screensaver on a paused video.

2. All files I am playing are stored on our computers on the LAN. When I go to "Local network" > [computer name], the browser always hangs on "loading" and nothing happens. The only solution is to press the "Back" button on the remote, then enter the same computer again – it always works the second time, in a split second. The same happens, occasionally, with subfolders, e.g. the "Films" folder.

Both are quite annoying.

My Android TV is Sharp LC-50EQ3EA and it runs Android TV version 11, and it has the latest build available: RTM9_241015.015.

Could you please share some logs? Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...). If you want to retrieve the logs from a TV easily, you can use the new remote access feature.

Happening with me as well with DLNA server. Same DLNA server is accessible using 3.5.7.

The problems appear to have been fixed – they stopped two or three days ago, in the version released on 1st February, if I'm not mistaken. (I update VLC every day.)

I can enter the LAN share (computer) and its subfolders from the first try.

When a video is paused and the screensaver turns on, and I return to VLC, an orange progress bar is now displayed on the video thumbnail – the video resumes playback correctly.

The only problem now is that when the video resumes, the subtitles go back to "disabled", so I have to re-enable them again.

The problem with the subtitles reverting to "disabled" after pausing for long enough to start the screensaver on my Android TV has been solved now (since 7th or 8th February). Great!
