VLC for Firestick unable to read files over LAN

I have setup a shared folder on my Windows 11 PC to share video files to other devices on my WiFi network.
I have a Amazon Firestick and have tried to use VLC to see my shared folder, but VLC doesn't show any files.
I know the shared folder works properly because if I launch MX Player or ES File Explorer I can see the folder perfectly.
However in both those apps I was given an option to add a path manually such as \\ROG.
VLC doesn't seem to have a way to manually input the network path, only auto detect which fails to see the network.
I have tried to clear cache, and clear data, as well as reinstall the app.
Any ideas? Is this a bug?
I found this 1 year old Reddit post saying something similar.
