VLC No Longer Discovering Files

Postby EminentEmily » 30 Aug 2024 01:43

I'll open by stating software and hardware specs. I am using Android VLC Version 3.5.4 (2023-02-20) on a Motorola Edge+ 5G UW. VLC was installed via the Google Play Store.

I have been using VLC without issue from the moment I got this phone. In the past week, I have received a new security update for the device and since then, some apps have been malfunctioning. Not just VLC, to be clear. I'm having to re-permit access to files, for example, constantly. Today, the changes began to affect VLC. Scanning for media is failing to find any files, despite my verifying their presence there. I suspect this is a permissions issue, but I don't seem to have an option to manually grant VLC access to files. If I try to Browse for files on Internal, VLC claims the directories are empty, but I can find the files on another app.

Is there something I can do to manually grant the Files permission on Android, or is there a newer version I can try and test to see if it'd be more successful?

If you have no media, a "grant permission" button should appear in the app. The easiest way is probably to clear VLC app's data and start over (uninstall/reinstall should work too).
