VLC on Android: Open files from other apps

Dear Forum,
when installing the VLC for Android app I was quite happy that it a) allows streaming to Chromecast and b) I could select files via the standard Android file explorer to also access apps with file repositories (like google, MS, dropbox or in my scenario Synology Drive).

As soon I have also granted the app access to to read the Android file system directly this option disappeared.

Am I blind or do I have to decide between "Standard File browser WITH access to 3rd party apps" or "Embed the local file system in the workflow but WITHOUT access to 3rd party apps".
