Hi, I have 2 Fire Sticks. One is "lite" and the other is "4K". The FS lite finds my UPnP / DLNA media server and plays all my videos. The 4K finds the videos but won't play them. I uninstalled and reinstalled VLC and now it sees only one of my DLNA / UPnP servers and it sits on "loading ...." for ever. I put one video on it as a test.
The VLC version is 3.5.4

Edit: BTW, I also have several micros, a Roku and 3 smart TV's running VLC flawlessly. It's just the 4K Fire Stick that has this issue.

In the advanced settings, try unchecking "force SMB 1".

Thanks Aza, but I don't have that setting. I only have prefer SMB 1 and unchecking that doesn't do anything for my issue.

OK, I haven't used my firestick light since last summer (It's used outside) and it no longer works with any DLNA servers either! I believe it's the recent upgrade version 3.5.4 that broke it! Doesn't anyone use a Firestick with VLC to access DLNA servers? I'd be happy to send debug logs if someone can tell me how.

Maybe not the answer you are looking for, but I use Universal Media Server on my PC and VLC 3.5.4 on my firestick 4k has no issues accessing and playing media files.

Or try the VLC 3.6.0 nightly build (Armv7 in my case).

... and now it just starts working. I believe it was when I "forced stop" VLC and restarted it. No idea why a reboot of the Firestick wouldn't do the same thing!
