UPDATE: I fixed the interface appearance problem by unchecking the box next to "Android TV Interface > Change UI to TV adapted theme."

However I'm still unable to play a streaming video. The video starts to play but it only plays for about 2 seconds before stopping and returning to the streaming address entry box.

Sometimes when this happens I get the following error message:

"Something went wrong with VLC. VLC closed because this app has a bug. Try updating this app after its developer provides a fix for this error."

Ok, I was able to get VLC to play streaming videos by going into Settings > History and putting a check mark in the box next to the
"Playback history Save all media played in History section" option.

So now I can play streaming videos but the videos are freezing intermittently throughout playback. This can be remedied by lowering the playback speed to 60x or lower but obviously that's not a viable solution. Is there a buffer setting or some other setting that I can use to eliminate the video freezing problem?

UPDATE: No longer able to stream videos on VLC. Apparently this problem is unfixable or it isn't a high priority on the list of VLC bugs.
