VLC can not load external subtitles automatically

Google TV.

VLC refuses to automatically load external subtitle files (srt) which are the same name with the video file and within the same folder. Every time i open a video, i have to go through the hassle to manually select the external subtitle file. I have gone through the settings and i don't think i am missing anything. Is this the normal behavior?

On what type of folder are your files stored? Is it a SMB share?

Yes it is a Samba shared drive. The file system is ext4.

I just tried and it's working fine here. Could you please share some logs? Reproduce the issue and then go to: Settings > Advanced > Debug logs. Then share the logs with the sharing service you prefer (Google Drive, Dropbox, pastebin...).
