Add "rename" feature to the existing file management menu.

Postby Markandenbergen » 26 Dec 2023 23:18

I often need to rename photos as I take them while I am working on a job on location. It's a very intuitive way to add info to a photo.
The problem is that so far I have not found a media app that makes it quick and easy to rename photos and videos. I have tested 6 different apps on android, and they all make it cumbersome to see the name of the photo or rename it.
VLC is great because at least I can easily see the photo thumbnail and the filename next to it. ( Something that other media apps don't do without several clicks)

My feature request is for VLC to add "Rename" in the existing pop-up menu that appears when you click on the 3 dots to the right of each filename in file list view ( see snapshot).

I too would like this feature - though VLC is not a file manager and would not necessarily be better if robust file-manager features were stuffed into it. It's painless to run both VLC and a file manager; and multiple ways to do the same thing implies excess baggage. But just yesterday I tried to rename a video and forgot I was in VLC instead. Same comment about "Delete file" in VLC: It's useful but doesn't necessarily belong there.
