I am successfully able to easily transfer video files from my laptop to my iPhone using VLC's "Sharing via WiFi" option.
But I'm not seeing this anywhere on my Android devices. Is this not available on Android?
Also, does this all have to be done over the same WiFi connection, or can I transfer from a wired (Ethernet) to a wireless device?

This will be one of the major feature of the 3.6 version we are working on. Either for iOS or Android (3.6) you can access it from the same network and it doesn't depend on your type of connection.
