Are recent beta versions broken?

Postby mayconhvab » 18 Jul 2023 20:52

Hello developers.

When accessing the website https://nightlies.videolan.org/ to download beta versions of VLC so that we have a species not yet added in the final versions of VLC Media Player, I realized that when accessing VLC for Android (ARMv7-A) and VLC for Android (ARMv8-A) I can't get to the App's main UI screen.
That is, from July 11, 2023 onwards, until July 17 and 18 of that year, I cannot play any video or audio that is added to my smartphone.
I've already tried ARMv7-A and ARMv8-A on Xiaomi Note 11 and J5 Prime (2016) Android smartphones, but both don't work. (All update patches are already standardized and up to date).
It looks like the beta builds run files are corrupted.
But the versions only from the 10th of July 2023 work correctly.
I could also notice that in "Index of /vlc-android/nightly-arm64/" on the VLC beta website for Android the file size decreased by 1 MB in question that was at 40 MB and went down to 39 MB.
Since "VLC-Android-3.5.4-armv8-20230710-0116.apk" works correctly for both smartphones, but newer versions onwards don't work.
Could you be correcting this bug/error that happened? Because the installation via . apk file occurs normally, but when entering the application after installation it simply closes and does not open anymore, every time when I try to open it it closes.
This is from "VLC-Android-3.5.4-armv8-20230710-0116.apk" onwards.
I download beta versions to have better experience and latest according to VLC Media Player app.
Thanks in advance.

Here's what you can do:

Report the Issue: Visit the official VLC forums or bug tracker and report the issue. Developers often appreciate user feedback, especially for beta versions, as it helps them identify and address problems.

Check for Updates: Keep an eye on the official VLC website or forums for updates. Developers may release newer beta versions that address the issues you're facing.

Use Stable Releases: If you need a more stable experience, consider using the latest stable release of VLC for Android instead of the beta versions.

Community Support: Check forums or communities where VLC beta users discuss their experiences. You might find others who have encountered similar issues and have found workarounds or solutions.

Remember that beta versions are experimental, and issues like the ones you described are common during the testing phase. It's great that you're actively providing feedback, as this contributes to the improvement of the software.

If you continue to experience problems, reaching out directly to the VLC development team through their official channels is the best way to ensure that your feedback is received and considered.
