Hi, how are you restarting the playlist exactly ?
If you are pressing the play button at the top, in the header, this is the intended behavior, it will start the playlist from the start.
If you were playing a video playlist, you can resume it from the resume button in the three dot menu, in the video section.
We don't save the progress inside a playlist, only progress on individual files, or progress for the previous list of media that was playing, sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm not restarting the playlist VLC does...
Senario as follows:
1 - Watching a video within a playlist (say second video in 3 video playlist).
2 - Pressed home or any other action resulting in app going in background (still running in memory).
3 - Goes back to the app after no time.
Expected behaviour:
App resumes video number 2 (the one I was playing).
Actual behaviour:
App resumes first video in the playlist.
This happens with any type of platlylist (manually created - auto)

Ok, thanks for the feedback, though I wasn't able to reproduce this.
Would you mind sending us some logs by going to More -> Settings -> Advanced -> Debug logs (at the bottom), please ? It might help to see what is happening

What I did ...
- Go to Debug logs -> start logging -> clear logging
- Played a single video -> out -> in = works as expected
- Highlighted 2 videos and played them as a playlist
- First video -> go to middle -> out -> in -> resumed from middle correctly.
- Gone to middle of second video (same playlist) -> out -> in -> resumed the frst video instead.
- Back to Debug logs -> Copy to clipboard.
